Patience and
Progress
efore we began to pray, a number of us
commented on how long the Awakening was taking to burst into full
bloom (the literal meaning of Revival). We knew it had begun. We
traded wonderful stories of what God was doing elsewhere –
everywhere, it seemed, but Tremont Temple. What of the visions
we’d been given, of every seat being filled? We were still bumping
along at 20 or 30 each Wednesday.
That wasn’t fair, of course, or
accurate. If Revival began with the reviving of each heart, it was happening here. Each
week, the sense of His presence was stronger.
Yet we wanted more – much more. And we
wanted it now. “Soon,”
even in earthly rather than Heavenly terms, was not soon enough.
He spoke to that.
You
wait and wonder and wish that I would pour out my Spirit on all
flesh, as I have promised. You chafe at my tarrying. You even
presume to rebuke me for delaying. But just as Christmas comes to an
impatient child, so the day of my awakening will come to my
impatient children. Then all the waiting will be forgotten, and all
the delay will be forgiven. And we will rejoice together, as you
unwrap the magnificent present I am bringing you.

Did I not say to you that I am
preparing the few, before I send the multitudes? As it was when I
walked the earth, so it is today. I began by calling the twelve, and
at times I prepared the three. Then I selected the seventy, and then
I chose five hundred to see me in my resurrected form.
So it
is in this current prayer movement. I am selecting the few in
preparation for the multitudes that will surely come.

When we’re not praying, we sometimes
fondly imagine what the Awakening is going to be like. Accompanied
by miracles, signs and wonders, it will be similar to other great
moves of God. But it will be larger, and in one key respect, it will
be different. There will be no jealousy, strife or competition among
the leaders. They will be helping one another and caring for one
another, knowing that each is also hearing the voice of
God.
For they will call you “voice
people,” and they will not mean it kindly. But I tell you:
take it kindly, because your ability to hear to hear my voice
will be what sets you apart. You will respect my voice in one
another, and you will defer to one another, until you have peace and
know that you have heard me
accurately.
In this way, will I draw you
closer to me and closer to each other. In this way, will I work
meekness and humility into your hearts. In this way, will I blend
your hearts, harmonize your voices, and meld your wills with mine,
until we have one will and walk together with one
purpose.
So, my
voice people, listen to me and rejoice in what I am calling you to
do. For my voice will herald and hasten the return of my Son.
