Heavenly Express

A

s we have often said, with the solitary exception of Holy Scripture all received words must be regarded as suspect. Coming through imperfect filters (namely us), they must be carefully discerned, for they can be colored by our intellects, our opinions, our desires, even our gifts.

I’m a writer, with a writer’s imagination. Last Tuesday I got off the T at the Aquarium stop and fondly remembered taking my grandchildren to see “The Polar Express” at the Imax theater there. (The only disappointment with that otherwise fine warm-fuzzy, was the absence of the One whose birthday was being celebrated.)

The next day, at Tremont Temple, the following word came. (Of course, He could have tied it in to my memory; He does that, sometimes. . . .)

For my Awakening is coming as an express train in the night. No man can impede it. No man can hasten it. It is out of the

control of yardmaster or switchman. No signal lights can slow or divert it. It is not a run-away, but it is behaving as if it was. It is gathering momentum and is beginning to frighten those who can see it coming.

I am pleased that each of you has put me before all the pressures of the season, of which I am well aware. Your hearts and your prayers will smooth the way of this

heavenly express. I, the Conductor, invite you on board. You, my passengers, will have to decide whether you will ride in the first car, or the last. I have first-class seats reserved for you up front, but you must leave all comfort behind, all worldly claims to your time and your focus.

All aboard, my  children! Do not tarry! Do not dawdle! Do not wait until the last moment, before sprinting down the platform to swing aboard the last car. All aboard, the heavenly express!  continued:Alex, too, received a word. Just as timely and urgent, his was more in the classic traditional mold. It reminding us that we serve a God of mercy, as well as judgment, and that He would have us be merciful to those whom we might not deem deserving of it.

Look to the walls of Jerusalem, for it is a type of my Church. As I called my laborers to stand in the gap of the way, so I am calling you to stand in the gaps of my Church.

As the Jerusalem wall was built stone by stone, connected to the chief cornerstone, so is my Church built with living stones. The gaps within my Church represent living stones who have gone asleep or have fallen away.

As you stand in the gaps, I  call you first to seek me with prayer and supplication for my fallen people. You are also to extend a compassionate and merciful hand to nurture my people and to help in restoring them back to full fellowship with me. You are not to make judgment on their state, but instead, your are to be agents of my grace that will help my fallen ones.
