Astonishing is the word that comes to mind, to describe
what happened at Tremont Temple Friday night.
For those who may not have heard about it (and many have
told me they'd have come, had they heard), a little over a
month ago, Roberto Miranda, Pastor of the Leon de Juda Church,
invited everyone with a heart for revival to gather Friday evening
at Tremont Temple, 7:30 to 9:00. I heard he was hoping
for 300-500. My own expectations were more dour: 200-250, tops.
But there was not much notice, though Alex did interview
Roberto on WEZE and shifted the daily radio invitations for the Noon
hour over to Roberto's event.
When Alex and I got there at 7:00, the main floor was
already a third full. And people kept coming. . . . familiar
faces from the Noon hour, from Leon de Juda, and some whom I'd
not see since same-sex marriage demonstrations at the
Statehouse two years ago.
The music team from Leon de Juda was electric, as we sang
in English and Spanish (thanks to the transparencies). The overall
mood was exuberant! We could not believe how many of us there were!
I know God is not impressed with numbers, and I do try not to be.
(Well, Father, there are not many here tonight, but I know that
you've brought each one. . . &c)
Not Friday. As Roberto shared his vision for what God was doing
and was about to do in Metro Boston, every seat on the masin
floor was taken. The first balcony was mostly full. The second
balcony had people in it. Ergo, it would not be evangelically
speaking to say there were some 1,200. Certainly there were way over
a thousand -- and that's a lot of candles!
The Noon Hour is having its first evening event on the Thursday
after Easter (April 20), but after the astonishing
turn-out Friday, I suspect there will be other gatherings
before ours.
Anyway, come to Tremont on Wednesday, if you can. It will be a
lot quieter than it was on Friday, but the Presence of the Lord will
be every bit as strong.
